Casting Growth
Mycelium Is a promising biological binder in regenerative composite systems. One promising avenue of exploration in industrial design is the redirection of industrial-scale food and agricultural waste from landfill to the production of domestic objects. Students in this design studio were asked to imagine one simple use of mycelium and bio-cycle waste in the form of short-lifespan biodegradable planters. What if our local garden centers didn’t use plastic planters? And how might we develop the aesthetic potential of a “grown” industrial material?
The course’s conceptual client and Circular Economy champion was John Edel, Founder and Director of The Plant (www.insidetheplant.com).
