Portmanteau
Inspired by the French origin word ‘portmanteau’, which in linguistics means a combination, hybrid word such as ‘brunch’ or ‘smog’, and the reality that all design is essentially a mashup of existing elements, students randomly selected two basic products and searched for a meaningful intersection. Students first analyzed and understood each individual object, and then found a synergy between the two, expressing a greater value in a new form. This was a 5-week project.
