Streamlining the State of Illinois public benefits process
Federal government benefit programs help low-income families and individuals afford basic expenses like food, housing, and healthcare. However, many qualified households and individuals do not take advantage of these benefits due to a lack of awareness, not knowing how to apply, or the complexity of the paperwork.

As a designer, I aim to simplify the complex. Using digital media, I designed an easy-to-use app that streamlines the State of Illinois' public benefits process through the stages of delivery, qualification, and application. The delivery stage connects individuals to the services they need by targeting locations within high-need communities and disseminating information that leads them to the qualification stage. In the qualification stage, individuals answer non-personally identifiable questions that guide them to the IDHS services they are most likely qualified for; how to apply for services; and where to find non-profit organizations and IDHS offices for additional help and/or evaluation. The application for benefits consists of a simplified process guided by visuals and other simplified features, ensuring that the app is accessible to as many people as possible.
