Power Within
The thoughts and emotions that pour into any blank space are powerful; the manifestation of voices one cannot hear but see. Such voicings come in different shapes and colors, formats, materials, and media. They penetrate one’s state of mind and influence the way one perceives the world at large. African Americans created Afrofuturism as a way of paving a positive future, free of oppression, creating blank spaces in which to visually manifest a plethora of positive futures. Using excerpts from the essay, “Afrofuturism 2.0 & The Black Speculative Arts Movement,” by Raynaldo Anderson, I have created spaces---visual voicings and speculations---as a means of exploring the past, present, and future according to my own blended perceptions as a designer.
