Fuel Fresh

How might we create a Chicago-wide service that destigmatizes the idea of “fresh food” while providing workarounds for those who don’t have the proper access to fresh produce.
Fuel Fresh is a fresh produce source that provides convenient access to food in areas where healthy options are limited, as well as a source of education and inspiration for preparing food at home.
We conducted a site visit at the Farm on Ogden, which is a partnership between Lawndale Christian Health Center and Windy City Harvest. It’s located in the heart of one of the most violent and impoverished west side communities in Chicago, and aims to provide fresh produce to the surrounding areas. Along with being a “healthy neighborhood corner store,” it gives people an opportunity to learn about nutrition and food preparation as well.
The Farm on Ogden contains a year-round indoor greenhouse and uses a 50,000-gallon aquaponics system to grow it’s produce from start to finish. Each harvest contains different produce based on what is currently in season.
Fresh produce vending machine placed in convenient areas where healthy food is inaccessible.
Interactive screen on the machine lets you see the current produce in stock, as well as recipes that pair best with that is available.
Each season, the vending machine will contain a poster on the side which shows the produce in stock as well as recipes that can be made with the produce.
Fresh produce and meats will come in biodegradable packaging. Each package contains one serving size.
The vending machine comes with reusable bags for purchase for those who did not bring their own.
Each purchase will include a printed out recipe card that best applies to the produce purchased.
Brand identity we followed when creating all aspects of this project.
