“Dreamers”
In these troubling times, I have been thinking a lot about social issues that are important to me and the emotions they stir up. DACA (Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals) especially; those called “Dreamers.” Growing up around family members and friends who are DACA recipients, I’ve learned a lot about the impact DACA has had on their lives, and on mine. My recent design work gives voice to the varied experiences of “Dreamers” and the unstable conditions that govern their daily lives, aspects amply reflected in my work through the use of animation and kinetic typography. If emotion is a kind of wisdom, then my work, which showcases an array of different emotions, conveys insight. It is up to the viewer to interpret what they see and come to their own conclusions.

Many people come to this country in the hope of pursuing the “American Dream.” As a second-generation Mexican American, I’ve witnessed the many obstacles of family members and friends who are DACA recipients. My works are a representation of the misconceptions surrounding DACA and what it really means to be a “Dreamer.”
