Your Body, Your Temple
Obesity rates in all age groups in the U.S. increased significantly between 1999 and today. (The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an even starker rise.) Exercise not only helps to control weight, it strengthens bones and muscles, improves sleep, manages blood sugar and insulin levels, and more. Meditation has health benefits as well. It helps one relax and improves one’s attention span and ability to focus. Taking care of one’s body is a big job. It is also extremely important. As a designer, I return again and again to subjects like personal growth, healthy eating habits, and self-care. My aim is simple: to prompt the viewer to slow down, relax, refocus, breathe. The visual language of design and the poetic voice (my own) combine in myriad ways, resulting in work that might best be described as nourishment for the mind, body, and soul.

Self-care is an important subject, but the truth is many people either find it difficult to initiate and/or maintain, or are unconvinced the subject applies to them. Personal growth, healthy eating habits, and self-care are subjects I return to again and again. I like to think of my work as nourishment for the mind, body, and soul. With a series of looping videos—which are at once visually soothing and meditative—users are guided through simple breathing exercises designed to facilitate breath awareness and to help users reset, refocus, and relax.
