Butterfly Planter
Designers have the power and responsibility to improve all things and to address big issues with global impact. There is no problem too small or solution too complex that cannot be addressed practically, rationally, and purposefully. This is my design philosophy. If the outcome is to elicit a smile, it too can have a positive ripple effect and improve the quality of life for everyone.

At the start of every summer the Monarch butterfly travels over 3,000 miles, migrating from Mexico to breeding grounds across the US. The Monarch butterfly population has decreased dramatically in the past two decades, principally due to deforestation. Butterfly Planter is an urban resting station for migrating Monarchs, serving the butterflies need for milkweed, water, healthy foods and minerals. It serves people, too, attracting the Monarch to their immediate surroundings, and providing them with an opportunity to do their part in preserving the species.
