Then and Onwards
In a world that values stoicism and strength, I admire those brave enough to showcase their vulnerability. As designers, we are familiar with the iterative process, and our greatest project is the development of ourselves. To fulfill our utmost potential, we must defy pressures to suppress our identity and live unabashedly. There is no merit in denying our humanity and fallibility. As for me, I love pop music. Shamelessly. The feeling of leather furniture makes me profoundly uncomfortable. I’m afraid of ants, and death anxiety haunts me. I spend an inordinate amount of energy dwelling on the symmetry of my eyebrows. I adore cats with the intensity of a mother’s unassailable bond to her child.
If we are honest with each other and ourselves, our work is sincere and constructive. Designers have a duty to improve the human experience, because we are equipped to. Authenticity and empathy are integral to the task.
