I am in awe of how children imagine and create worlds of their own out of virtually nothing. Two sticks become a violin and a bow; a blanket covering a table becomes a fort. Even objects that are geared toward children for a given purpose can become something else altogether with a child’s imagination. Their capacity for invention is beyond that of the average adult. My job, as a designer interested in and knowledgeable about child development (and a propensity for play), is to empower children by challenging their early developmental skills: gross and fine motor, social, hearing and speech, sensory and cognitive, and vision.
